Meet The Upsides, a mid-Missouri trio born from the shared songwriting talents of Audra Sergel, Holley Pering, and Robin Anderson. With rich three-part harmonies that sometimes become the melody itself, The Upsides craft a sound that is as textured as it is melodic. With each member taking turns on lead vocals, their sound is a harmonious mix of diverse musical influences, including elements of jazz, folk, blues, and even classical music, paying homage to the trio's extensive backgrounds in music education, teaching, and music therapy. Each song showcases a unique blend of ukuleles, piano, guitar, and upright bass; the addition of Jonathan Kies on upright bass adds depth to their modern Americana mix.
From the beginning, they’ve woven their music with unique textures and intricate vocal layers, creating a rich and evolving soundscape. Over the past eight years, The Upsides have honed their craft through live performances at festivals, intimate listening rooms, and dedicated studio sessions.
The Upsides pour their heart and soul into every original tune. Their lyrics are heartfelt, often evoking a sense of nostalgia, bittersweet memories, and tender reflections on shared human experiences—joy, loss, love, heartache, grief, presence, and life itself. Through it all, they maintain an unwavering optimism, always looking on the upside.
